A combining form of azote\n Applied loosely to compounds having nitrogen variously\n combined, as in cyanides, nitrates, etc.\n Now especially applied to compounds containing a two atom\n nitrogen group uniting two hydrocarbon radicals, as in azobenzene,\n azobenzoic, etc. These compounds furnish many artificial dyes.
